I am your host Moriah Hernandez, and you’re listening to Let’s Get Real With Pop Culture. This podcast series covers social issues that are popping up in the celebrity spotlight from sexual assault in hit songs to the victim-blaming of recording artists. In this first installment, we discuss Lady Gaga’s nomination and performance of “Til It Happens to You” at Sunday’s Academy Awards.Gaga’s song tells survivors that it was not there fault. I spoke with Kat Chapman, a member of the ASU chapter of I Am That Girl, on the importance of the performance and the message behind the song. We discuss the awareness that this emotionally charged song is raising about the issue of sexual assault, specifically that occurring on college campuses.
