Skills & Abilities

Working on the staff of school newspapers for 6 years taught me how to manage myself, my time and other people. I was Editor-in-Chief of my middle school and high school newspapers. I had to manage a staff of nearly 25 reporters in high school, which taught me to manage others and lead them as well. Time management is major part of my life as a journalist working on deadlines for the last 7 years.

I excel in written communication as I have won numerous awards for my work at the Review Journal Newspaper Awards including first place in copy editing in 2014. I can also use visuals as a form of communication, specifically photographs and design. Again, I won awards for best page one design as well as features, arts, or entertainment page design. I worked on staff at my school newspapers for 6 years and learned to communicate with all kinds of people through the interview process.

Again, my ability to lead was demonstrated the most when I worked as Editor-in-Chief for my school newspapers. I had to lead by example in completing my work on deadline as well as at the quality level I expected from my reporters. I learned how to take control of situations to accomplish a task if necessary as well as delegating at times.

Cashier Supervisor at Arcadia Ice Arena (March 2016-present)

Working as a cashier has taught me about customer service. It is important to cater to the customer’s needs without compromising the business itself. I handle money and merchandise every day. It is my responsibility to keep a watchful eye on the rink as well as customer’s and their safety on the ice. I have to keep the Pro Shop clean and presentable to maintain a professional atmosphere for customers.

Editor-in-Chief for Green Valley HS’s The InvestiGator (2012-2014)

After working on the staff for two years and a year of being Opinion Editor, I took over the position of Editor-in-Chief my junior year. I worked alongside a co-editor both years. My job was to keep the entire staff on deadline, ensure the quality of the work was up to par and to do any last minute coverage that might be necessary.
